QLD Tour This Weekend

Thanks to all who came along to our VIC shows over the weekend. We really got onto a roll and felt we were finding different ways into these songs of mine. Great to have Dan Kelly sing with us, Felicity Cripps, Celia Church and the delightful Kelly Day. It’s Queensland's turn this weekend with shows in Currumbin, Ipswich and Brisbane.

Though there’s not a lot of publicity about for our Brisbane show ~ it’s part of Live Spark, a free Sunday afternoon concert at The Powerhouse.

Hoping people will come, it’s a throw of the dice outside capitals. Never thought I’d be playing in Pauline Hanson’s hometown of Ipswich. Banshees Bar is an art space gallery and bar, we’re looking forward to the experience. Here’s Shane modelling a PH mask we found in a car park in Adelaide. Would’ve been good for Halloween.

Our first show in Perth has already sold out. New show added on Fri Jan 20 at Lyric's Underground, Maylands.

Looking forward to some sunny weather and a swim or two. See you somewhere.

Good news ~ VIC, QLD and WA

Well the good news is LINDY had a large fan presented to her in Adelaide [for her hair]. We were all chuffed by the efforts of former Go-Betweens and BES stagehand Jason Evans [now living in SA] who was the most generous host and tour guide. Thanks J! A big thanks also to all who made it to The Wheatsheaf and Karl Melvin from Avant Gardeners for his bass expertise. Karl often stands at the back of the room at shows shouting out for “Will’s Blues” ... so it was a joy to have him join us for a handful of songs. Generosity of people astounds me ~ thanks to Paul for gifting Lindy a new set of cymbals too 🥁..!

We have some Victorian shows coming up in early Nov before Lindy and I head to QLD in duo mode. CastlemaineNorthcoteArchies Creek ... then Gold CoastIpswich and Brisbane.

Also our first show of 2023 has been announced in WA. Heading over to play Lyric’s Underground, Maylands on Sat Jan 21 with Catherine Traicos joining us as our special guest. Tickets are already selling swiftly. 🚀 Lickety split.

All ticketing info can be found here and at venues.

Hopefully see you in VIC, QLD or WA...

Adelaide and Victorian shows

Firstly thanks to all the good folk who’ve already bought tickets to our shows in ADELAIDE ~ the Sunday afternoon has *** SOLD OUT *** and only a handful of tickets remain for Saturday night. Be quick if you’re keen. We’ll be joined at both shows by two of Adelaide’s finest in Liz Dooley from Swimsuit and Karl Melvin from Avant Gardeners ~ each sitting in on a few songs. Looking forward to it.

After Adelaide we turn our attention to Victorian shows with 3 dates in a row [likely to kill people of our vintage].

Theatre Royal ~ Castlemaine Nov 4

Wesley Anne ~ Northcote Nov 5 and

The Archies Creek Hotel Nov 6

I love Castlemaine, I often think it would be the ideal place to live...especially after visiting. Look forward to singing with our guest Felicity Cripps again also. One of Felicity’s first CD purchases was the Snarski & Luscombe CD ~ There is nothing here that belongs to you. Serendipity.

Wesley Anne has a lovely little stage out the back, tables and chairs, very comfy. There’s the option of matinee 3-6pm or evening 8-11pm.

Then we head to Gippsland for an afternoon show at Caravan Music’s relocated venue ~ The Archies Creek Hotel. Peter Foley has been shaping this place for a number of years now ~ seems to be a very popular spot in that neck of the woods, not far from Phillip Island too.

Great to be busy again, and thanks to all who came along to the Great Club, if I’ve said that before...I’m saying it again.

Thanks,

ADELAIDE with Lindy & Co then VICTORIA

Special thanks to all the friends and fine folk who filled The Great Club in Sydney. It was an absolute joy to play the new songs with Lindy & Co.

Next stop ~ ADELAIDE ~ for two shows.

My favourite pub in SA, The Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton hosts a Saturday evening and Sunday matinee. Lindy hasn’t played in Adelaide for 33 years... far too long. Here’s a pic of The Tivoli, possibly from the second last time Lindy played in Adelaide with The Go-Betweens.

November rolls in and we head to regional Victoria with shows in Castlemaine and Archies Creek, as well as dropping by Melbourne for a couple of intimate shows at Wesley Anne in High St, Northcote [matinee and evening tickets 🎫 available]

It’s getting busy.

Don’t forget the new album Searching For The Heart Of It All is available to stream on all platforms and available on CD also.

See you somewhere.

ps. QLD shows with Lindy in the pipeline too.

I got quite a surprise to find this pic of Lindy Morrison [The Go-Betweens] and Jim Woff [Crow/The Cannanes] on social media. Pictured here outside a rehearsal room in Marrickville about to fine tune their rhythm section parts for the show 🥁 … ! Made my day.

In Melbourne, Shane O’Mara and myself head out west to Footscray this Friday for a set at Hotel Westwood. Early start and finish 7:30-8:30pm ... and it’s FREE.

Sydney launch | Extra Melbourne show

Heartfelt thanks to all who have bought the album and came along to the Melbourne launch at MEMO. Most enjoyable ... so much so the ensemble insisted we play at least one more time.

It’s taken a while to lock in a show north-side, now the good folk at The Thornbury Theatre have opened their doors and will be hosting our second show ~ we’re all looking forward to bringing Searching For The Heart Of It All to this glorious old gem. Tickets 🎫 available here ~

S Y D N E Y ~ Returning to The Great Club in Marrickville with my pal Lindy Morrison and some of my So-Called Friends. Whenever this little combo performs there’s arm wrestling and arguments ... all good natured of course. Lindy is a hoot, I’m often in tears before gracing the stage, sobbing with joy, mostly. Joining us are Peter Milton Walsh [The Apartments] and Jessica Black [Jep & Dep]. PMW sings “Sweet Edie” from the new album ~ the tale of a pregnant tram conductor, hiding her secret ‘neath a long winter coat. Jessica is our special guest and will accompany us with her beautiful, ethereal vocals.

Tickets 🎫 available here ~

The album is in some stores now, yippee~i~o!¡! ~ still available to purchase direct from the shop or Bandcamp.

Melb Launch 🚀 this week

Saturday June 18 sees the coming together of my So-Called Friends for the launch of Searching For The Heart Of It All.

Tickets 🎫 available here ~

Special guest my old pal Tanya Lee Davies with Amy Valent Curlis [vibraphone].

Searching For The Heart Of It All CD available to pre-order here ~

Here’s something about the songs ...

ELENA ~ separation, distance, that fear of never reconnecting with your partner. Musically we looked towards Cuban meets Ethiopian jazz, which you can hear in the scale of the keyboard lines. Kiernan Box knew exactly what to do after that directive. Graham Lee flew in some unusual pedal steel, that sounds more like lap steel to me, bringing something of his own to the song. It’s a real hotchpotch of sounds.

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH ~ I wrote this instrumental for brass at the kitchen table one morning. I’d worked with Jack Howard in some early Scott Walker shows and had seen him with Hunters and Collectors over the years, then he guested with The Blackeyed Susans when we performed with strings at The Recital Centre. I love his playing, his tone. He plays both trumpet and flugelhorn. With this track we exchanged ideas through home recordings which ended up as the bed of the track. As a final touch I asked Shane Reilly from Lost Ragas to add some strings ... to me it sounds a little French, a little chic, a little soft and sad.

STANDING NEXT TO DAVID ~ came late from my song gifts project, too late to be included on the double album, but then became part of my live set. Mike Brown, a massive Triffids fan, has a fair amount of adoration for David McComb and the album Born Sandy Devotional. My memories are intertwined with his. The song then segues into the love of his partner and the hope of one day coming to Australia and driving the Nullarbor plain and seeing The Swan River.

MY FRIEND TOO ~ here’s the first of my guest singers to the album, the magnificent Romy Vager. I love the way Romy’s voice cuts through the chaos and she sings with both grace and gusto. I wanted to mimic the Velvet Underground a little at the end ~ in particular John Cale’s thumping piano approach. Written after seeing the documentary Love In Bright Landscapes.

VIOLETS AND CHERRY BLOSSOMS ~ Doctor Smith come out to play. Lost in Space meets Lounge Jazz. The song is set in my neck of the woods and surroundings, things I see through the seasons. Kelly Day from The Broads sings the sweetest harmonies with me. I worship anyone who can sing harmonies so effortlessly like her. A little Waitsian with the wandering hands of Kiernan Box on piano at the intro and the outro.

SWEET EDIE ~ is the tale of my partner’s aunty, sung by the wonderful Peter Milton Walsh from The Apartments. Edie was a single mother in the sixties, she hid her pregnancy from her family under a tram conductor's winter coat, which she wore through the house, 24/7, through the seasons, up until the day she gave birth ... incredible tale. Must have been so lonesome and blue.

FEELING KIND OF BLUE ~ I’ve always loved Rebecca Barnard’s voice. One of the warmest and funniest beings in my musical sphere. I had written this song with a female voice in mind, Rebecca being the obvious choice. It’s a play on the Mile Davis album title, a song about an affair that wanes, a message without any malice.

YOU’LL SEE THE MOON ~ my song of hope and a little tribute of mine to Peter Milton Walsh’s band ~ The Apartments. I have jingle-bells that I bought from a music shop for about $10, but they sounded so glorious that we put them on almost everything whilst recording. We went a little bell~mad! I love the way the band opens this track, improvised, loose and my glorious, shimmering bells.

GIVE THE MAN A COIN ~ I always give people living on the street money, I figure if it’s gotten this tough you need something; and a coin or two out of my pocket is nothing compared to what you might be going through. I’ve admired Gareth Liddiard over the years. I loved his solo album and the way he mangles words so beautifully; he sounds like he’s swallowed a rusted diesel engine. I sent Gareth the song and he re-worked it to fit what he was comfortable with singing. So great.

POOR FLORENCE BROADHURST ~ was a Sydney celebrity designer. Born in outback Queensland but took on the world as a dancer and musician ~ touring south~east Asia and China in the late 20s, then marrying a stockbroker in London. Eventually she returned to Australia. She was was found bludgeoned to death in her Paddington studio with a lump of wood, and her murder has never been solved ... poor, poor Florence Broadhurst.

ALL I WANT TO DO IS SLEEP ~ I guess the title says it all. Dealing with grief, depression, things that are out of our control. I imagined what some of my friends have been going through after the loss of their partners and friends and created this song from my observations and imagination.

See you Saturday,

Rob x

Pre-order new album, Tickets for launch

After all the typo corrections and last minute track-list changes, the album is due to drop into my lap a couple of days before the Melbourne launch at MEMO.

It’s been a sweet experience, add to that a healthy dash of anxiety and a few micro~meltdowns and you’d be close to how the whole recording process felt.

Greatly appreciate all the input from these fine musician friends, humbling too.

The double A single of Elena and My Friend Too [featuring Romy Vager] is now available on all streaming platforms.

Rob Snarski and His So-Called Friends

Searching For The Heart Of It All

I wanted Searching For The Heart Of It All to be more like a playlist, a compilation … like one of those early Tarantino soundtracks where each song is a sonic surprise.

To achieve the variety, I had to cast the net far and wide, asking my musician friends and colleagues to contribute not only instrumentally but vocally, hence the extended list of guest singers - Romy Vager (RVG), Gareth Liddiard (TFS), Peter Milton Walsh (The Apartments), Rebecca Barnard (Rebecca’s Empire) and Kelly Day (The Broads).

The musicians - my So-Called Friends, include ‘Evil’ Graham Lee [The Triffids], Jack Howard [Hunters and Collectors], Shane Reilly [Lost Ragas], Kiernan Box [Augie March], Shane O’Mara [guitar maestro to many] and rhythm section Ben Wiesner and Rosie Westbrook. They all bring a certain gravitas to the songs, they lift them up and carry them to a place far, far away … exceeding all my musical expectations.

Don’t forget to grab tickets 🎫 for the Melbourne launch. Gareth’s overseas but if the stars align everyone else will be there.

See you soon.

Double A Single, new album, Melbourne album launch

Thrilled to say I’m releasing two songs today, old-school, double A side ~ Elena / My Friend Too ~ new school, digital.

The songs are only available on Bandcamp thus far and come from the forthcoming album Searching For The Heart Of It All - Rob Snarski and His So-Called Friends.

Elena is the tale of separation by long distance and pandemic and was one of the latter song gifts that I grew very attached to and consequently added to my setlist.

My Friend Too features the wonderful Romy Vager [RVG] singing with gusto and conviction. A song written about a misplaced memory, dealing with grief and loss, a little hot headed, impassioned and resentful.

There are two little music videos accompanying each song. Watch here:

The new album Searching For The Heart Of It All has exceeded my expectations. In fact, I’m only happy with my recordings when they do exactly that. There are some fine musician friends adding their touch to the album ... ‘Evil’ Graham Lee [pedal steel], Jack Howard [flugel horn and trumpet], Kiernan Box [piano and organ], Rosie Westbrook [double and electric bass], Ben Wiesner [drums] and singers Gareth Liddiard [TFS/Drones], Romy Vager [RVG], Rebecca Barnard {Rebecca’s Empire], Peter Milton Walsh [The Apartments] and Kelly Day [The Broads] not to forget the genius that is Shane Reilly adding strings.

Most of these fine musician folk join me for the Melbourne launch at Memo Music Hall, St Kilda on Saturday June 18. Hopefully we’ll see you there.

Searching For The Heart Of It All is now available to pre-order on CD ~ the album is scheduled for release in mid-June.

ps. thanks to all who came along to the Love In Bright Landscapes shows.

Album Launch Melbourne ~ New Album Info ~ Postcards

Firstly, thanks to all those who came along to see the recent shows with Lindy Morrison, or The Lindyband as I like to call it. We’ve received some wonderful feedback and plan to play a few more shows later in the year. I’ll keep you informed but Adelaide and Sydney have been pencilled in.

The big news is the brand new album Searching For The Heart Of It All is very, very close to completion. The Melbourne launch date is Saturday June 18 at The Memo Musical Hall in St Kilda and if the stars align, all the fine musicians who played on the album will make an appearance.

Tickets 🎫 available here ~

Hopefully we’ll see you there.

Here’s a lengthy blurb on the album.

Searching For The Heart Of It All, the new album from Rob Snarski and His So-Called Friends, marks a fresh approach to previous solo albums. Adding to Snarski’s infamous honey-laden voice, he’s asked some musician friends to loan their vocal talents to these brand new songs : Romy Vager [RVG], Peter Milton Walsh [The Apartments], Rebecca Barnard [Rebecca’s Empire] and Kelly Day [The Broads] all sing lead, giving Rob a chance to gift his songs to some of his favourite Australian voices, leaving Rob to sing 7 of the 11 songs on Searching For The Heart Of It All.

Along with guest singers, there is an array of extraordinary musicians adding to the beauty of this album : Jack Howard [Hunters and Collectors] flugelhorn and trumpet, ‘Evil’ Graham Lee [The Triffids] pedal steel, Kiernan Box [Augie March] piano and organ, Rosie Westbrook on double and electric bass and Ben Wiesner on drums. Co-producing is his long-time collaborator, guitar-maestro, and humble assistant Shane O’Mara, adding a delicate touch to these sprawling soundscapes.

The songs are both bold and intimate, subtle and bombastic, slow and swift. People, places, the past, the present, yesterday’s teardrops reshaped as today’s wonder – a metamorphosis.

Searching For The Heart Of It All is an unprecedented piece of work and a unique approach from one of Australia’s finest song writers.

One of the most sublime and expressive voices in Australian music. Rob Snarski's songs, whether expressing matters of the heart or peering at the world around him, unfailingly transport you to places that enrich us.

- Jonathan Alley, 3TripleR

Once upon a time, Rob Snarski’s gorgeous voice was high, lonesome and a little delicate. Over the years he has added a warm gravity to his singing and songwriting. Snarski deserves comparison to great artists such as Chris Wilson, Michael Nesmith and the early work of Van Morrison.

- Ross Gibson, Sydney Review of Books

This project is supported by Regional Arts Victoria and will be released in June 2022.

New to our shop are two postcards. Simply trying to work out if people still write and send them !?

If you’d like to receive a postcard with a verse from a song, or simply a postcard left blank… suggestions welcome.

Please select which option you’d prefer: Comic or Collage.

Brisbane and Melbourne ~ second show announced

LINDY MORRISON appeared to have had a few drinks and was a little teary. She’d been sitting with friends listening and watching myself and Peter Milton-Walsh at Marrickville’s Django Bar. The music seemed to have taken a toll. “That’s it” she said “I’m never seeing you play ever again. Your songs are far too sad and your bell playing is out of time.” Yikes, oh well.

Amanda informed me Lindy had been at afternoon drinks with a journalist friend so was feeling slightly vulnerable. I took it all in my stride and didn’t believe her for a minute, pfft ...my bell playing is flawless.

The next time I hear from Lindy Morrison is only a few weeks after, she informs me she’ll be at our next show in Canberra. Hmm, not really what I expected. I asked if she’d like to sit in on some songs and so began our musical liaison. We’ve since performed at a sell-out show in Sydney with The Apartments at the Great Club and now brimming with confidence we’re heading to Brisbane in duo mode to play the wonderful Bearded Lady, before shows in Melbourne with the addition of a Triffid in “Evil” Graham Lee and maestro guitarist Shane O’Mara.

Our first show in Melbourne at George Lane has sold-out quickly so a second show has been announced for Sunday afternoon at the same venue. It's a great room if you haven’t been, elegant and of another time. We’ll be playing two long sets, no supports and no tears.

It’s all about LINDY MORRISON.

From my scrapbook … which unfortunately I gave up after a few months.

And an excerpt from my B O O K … 📚

March shows with LINDY ~ Brisbane & Melbourne

Happy New Year!

With so many shows cancelled and rescheduled it’s with a little trepidation and a sprinkle of hope that I’m skating ahead to March. Excited to say LINDY MORRISON is going to join me for shows in Brisbane & Melbourne. Who’s LINDY MORRISON you ask? Read on…

Wait. Look over there. Is that Lindy Morrison? The Lindy Morrison who sat behind the drum kit with legendary Brisbane seminal post-punk-pop band The Go-Betweens? Is she not the other half of a great female friendship recently written about in the beautifully crafted memoir My Rock n Roll Friend by Everything But The Girls’ Tracey Thorn? Damn right it is.

We join forces for two shows in March, starting in Brisbane before heading to Melbourne.

After a gig or two together, endless disagreements, the occasional arm wrestle and chess game ~ we have decided to play together again. Firstly, at The Bearded Lady in duo mode ~ just to make things even more difficult on a Sunday evening. Secondly, at George Lane, St Kilda with the addition of a Triffid in ‘Evil’ Graham Lee on pedal steel and the maestro Shane O’Mara on guitars.

Not for the faint hearted, but for the romantic, the readers, the writers, the displaced, the misfits, the fanatical, the lovers and the lost. Be there.

Thanks Lindy, more recordings and 🎄

Have to say Sydney was an absolute joy. Incredible playing with Lindy Morrison ~ inventive, full of wit and melodrama. We’re thinking of continuing our little side project so keep an ear out.

Also, Acoustic House Concerts are back. Great to play to a warm gathering of folk organised for Kieren in Dulwich Hill. His spruiking of my wares was most impressive.

Since returning to Melbourne I’ve popped back in the studio to begin another album. Twelve new songs and some sung by my musician friends. I’m keen to hear for myself what it will be like and am finding the whole process of giving my new songs to someone else a little daunting, hopefully in a good way.

Thanks to all those who’ve purchased through the shop using the XMAS20 discount code. There’s only a handful of Sparrow & Swan 🦢 left on CD 💿 in case you’re keen, so be quick. The discount code applies for the month of December and includes, the book, the tea towel and a few CDs.

Take care over the break, see you in the new year Rx

Christmas discounts, thanks Sydney

Festive Greetings

I can’t believe I’m crossing the border for a show in Sydney and still waiting for something to pop up in Melbourne. Strange times.

Next week I start working in the studio on another album focusing on new songs and asking some musician friends to share their vocal talents. I’m trying a different approach... will keep you updated on the Instagram and Facebook pages.

In the meantime since Christmas is upon us I thought I’d discount some albums and merch. If you apply the code XMAS20 during the Snarski shop checkout you will receive a 20% discount for the month of December. Available for the Sparrow & Swan 🦢, Low Fidelity and Song Gifts CDs 💿 along with my B O O K and the Song Gifts linen tea-towel.

Thanks to all in Sydney who have purchased tickets to the show on Saturday. Looking forward to joining musical forces with Lindy Morrison 🥁 and seeing The Apartments in full swing.

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, Festive Festivus ~ I’ll keep you posted on upcoming shows in the new year.

Stay safe, look after yourselves and see you in 2022 if not before.

ps... if anyone is after a last minute Song Gift for Christmas I’m still writing them for anyone who is keen.

Shows begin again …

Well hello out there ... it’s been a while.

So many shows cancelled, rescheduled and shuffled about in the hope venues open up and we hit 80% vaccination rates. I’m trying to stay positive as we have a few shows in the pipeline.

phonto.JPG

A trip to S Y D N E Y is on the cards, pencilled in for DEC 11. I’m teaming up with vivacious, Go-Betweens drummer Lindy Morrison for a double-bill with The Apartments for their first show as a full band for over 5 years. It’s at new venue Great Club in Marrickville, the capacity has just been increased and tickets 🎫 are available here.

It’s a great shame we didn’t get to play our show in Brisbane at Backbone, very disappointed about that. Another time Brisbane, in fact if anyone can recommend a venue I might head up there in solo mode.

5D2B7021-6622-40C2-9EBE-521A999AB238.JPG

Earlier in the year I actually made it to WA to play a festival ~ it seems like a lifetime ago. I thought I’d organise a little bit of merchandise for the shows ~ TEA TOWELS ~ and we’ve only just put them up in the Snarski shop. 100% linen, made in Russia 🇷🇺 [not sure how that happened]. Available here ~

In lockdown I’ve spent a good deal of time transferring old video tape onto a hard drive before they all turn to dust. Here’s a clip of Chad’s Tree - my first band with my brother Mark performing The Orchard ~ I’m playing bass here, shot in the studio at The Noise.

Chad’s Tree formed in 1983, played shows with John Cale, Nico, The Triffids and The Go-Betweens. Our compilation double CD 💿 Crossing Off The Miles is available here containing both albums, all the singles, early demos and 4-track recordings.

Yes, I’m still writing Song Gifts if anyone is wondering. Thankfully not as furiously as last year but more than happy to help out if anyone would like to gift someone a song.

Hopefully see you soon, stay safe.

Show this Fri Melb, then Brisbane

Here’s ‘Evil’ Graham Lee [Triffids] and myself back in 1992 [photo 📸 by Brett Klucznik] on tour with The Blackeyed Susans. The following year the two of us played in duo mode supporting John Cale at The National Theatre in St. Kilda, the guest spot kindly handed to us by David McComb. At the time Dave wasn’t quite ready to go into solo mode, ... hmm, I can’t remember Graham and I playing any other duo shows. So it’s with a mix of wonder and bewilderment that we find ourselves playing together for the first time since ~ this Friday at The Palace Of Magnificent Experiences [P.O.M.E.] 267 Swan St, Richmond. It’s a wonderful gallery space, seated, table service and finger food. Tickets are strictly limited 🎫 and available here.

phonto.jpg

With Covid numbers settling and restrictions easing I’m feeling quietly optimistic Queensland will open their borders and I’ll make it in time to play at BACKBONE in East Brisbane. After sell out shows in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney Peter Milton Walsh [The Apartments] and I share the stage again with the wonderful Lindy Morrison [The Go-Betweens] joining me on the kit 🥁 ~ July 3, presented by Press Play and Phase 4. Tickets 🎟 here.

Love In Bright Landscapes has been a labour of love for Jonathan Alley [3RRR]. He’s been working on this documentary about the musical life of David McComb [The Triffids] for over a decade and it will have its debut screening as part of MIFF this coming August. Keep an eye out for the program. I’ve only seen the trailer and it appears to be worthy of the wait.

Hopefully see you somewhere.

Winter approaches, Adelaide this Sunday, Brisbane announced and more Melbourne shows

E9128E22-FBB4-4B9D-BF82-4001AB1557E7.JPG

Winter approaches, the leaves tumble down, the temperature drops and you can really feel that familiar chill in the air. Some people love it, wrapping themselves up in scarfs and winter coats. There’s often frost on the windscreen up here in the hills and that slim possibility of snow. Snow! Shows aren’t as frequent in winter and the choice of going out or staying snug at home in front of Netflix is sometimes an arm wrestle.

Heading to Canberra and Adelaide this weekend. Looking forward to Lindy Morrison joining me 🥁 on a few tunes at The Polish White Eagle and spreading some cheer. There’s still a few tickets 🎫 left for my solo Sunday afternoon show in Adelaide at The Wheatsheaf the following day.

IMG_8905.jpg

June sees two shows in Melbourne. Excited to be part of the West Set festival ~ winter tunes in the West. Playing at Hotel Westwood in sunny Footscray for the first time in their bistroteque with maestro Shane O’Mara on Friday June 18th, it’s free ... but you register for tickets.

IMG_8863.jpg

The second June show is more of an intimate gathering at new venue POME ~ Palace of Magnificent Experiences, 267 Swan St, Richmond ~ performing with pedal steel king 👑 ‘Evil’ Graham Lee on Friday, June 25. The last time we teamed up as a duo I believe was decades ago, supporting John Cale at The National Theatre in St Kilda. Graham is better known as the pedal steel player with The Triffids, he and I collaborated on a lot of songs from the Song Gifts album, so expect quite a few. Tickets are very limited, it’s a small gallery space and the owner often has Q&As with the musicians on the night. Tickets 🎫 here.

phonto.jpg

Finally making a trip north to Brisbane to launch 🚀 the Song Gifts double album and again share the stage with Peter Milton Walsh [The Apartments]. It’s PMW’s old home town so expecting to see some of his pals and acquaintances. Presented by Press Play and Phase 4 Records at East Brisbane’s BACKBONE on Saturday, July 3 ~ tickets available at Oztix and Phase 4. 🎫

See you somewhere ❄️ with winter coat and scarf.

St Kilda [Fri] Canberra & Adelaide ~ MAY SHOWS

IMG_8521.jpg
IMG_8555.jpg

Well after a busy weekend singing Scott Walker and then David McComb songs I’m now focusing on the May shows coming up.

Three states, three guises...

Returning to St Kilda with Shane O’Mara to play the new George Lane Friday, May 7 with very special guests Mark Ferrie’s Instant Noodles ~ featuring Mark on electric guitar and drummer extraordinaire Haz O’Mara ~ son of the maestro. If Mark’s name rings a bell he’s best know as the bassist in The Models. It’s an eclectic mix of instrumentals and as the name suggests ~ noodling.

IMG_8628.jpg

Then the weekend of May 22/23 I head to Canberra and Adelaide.

phonto.JPG

Peter Milton Walsh [The Apartments] joins me for our double bill at the Polish White Eagle aka Live at the Polo. Our last performance in Sydney we made Lindy Morrison cry, so she’s promised to sit in on a few tunes to straighten us out and spread some cheer.

IMG-8690.JPG

I fly to Adelaide next. I’m back at my favourite venue in SA for an early Sunday show at The Wheaty in Thebarton, playing Song Gifts to some fine folk there.

Hopefully catch you somewhere.
